Peteslab04Job Title: Breeding Program Intern Location: Redding, Watsonville, and Shastina, CA Department: Breeding Program Ideal Internship Program for: Biology/Plant Science Majors Job Summary: Lassen Canyon Nursery has an ongoing breeding program and has a need for seasonal help for one to four people to work in a greenhouse. Candidates may also help prepare crosses for breeding. Job Duties: Duties would be to transplant both strawberry and raspberry seedlings. Other jobs such as plant maintenance would include pruning, fertilizing, and watering plants. Preparing soil and filling plug tray and other general greenhouse maintenance as requested by greenhouse managers and plant breeders. We also have a seasonal need to prepare for the breeding program harvests that requires thousands of organized plant stakes, plant tags, and plant bags. Skills/Qualifications: A person that can understand the importance of a well organized pre harvest and how it relates to the actual field harvest. Repetitious work that requires a high degree of accuracy is what we like to have. Will be working with: Jo Richardson, Nick Pinkerton, Travis Stegmier Hours/Availability: Hours for both of these different positions are going to be variable but generally will be eight hours and your supervisor will set your schedule.
