Elwood Ranch Internship Program

Elwood Ranch Internship Program Elwood Ranch is looking for energetic and positive people who like to work with animals outdoors and who are interested to really learn how to run a cattle and goat ranch. Interns must be willing to help us on our ranch in exchange for great experience with ranch management.  This position would suit a college student enrolled in a wildlife/range/livestock management or related degree plan. Ideal candidate will be self-motivated with a strong work ethic and a ranch working background. Applicants should have good people skills, the ability to work from sunup till sundown in adverse weather conditions and possess/maintain a valid driver’s license. Applicants are subject to background checks.   Duties may include but are not limited to:
  • Possible assist with heavy equipment operation and maintenance (dozer, tractor, excavators, bobcat, etc.)
  • Field maintenance & irrigation duties
  • Prescribed fire preparation and implementation
  • Assist with construction, maintenance and care of buildings and yards
  • Washing and blow drying of show cattle and show goats
  • Daily cleaning and care of dog kennels, goat pens, and cattle stalls
  • Daily work with goats, cattle, and donkey
  • Applicant must be able to lift 50 lbs. and traverse across rough terrain
  Internship position: Willing to work with school schedules. Entry-level salary provided and adjusted with experience and work performance. The work hours are determined by the task and may include night hours during kidding season, early mornings for feeding, evening hours to finish chores, or closing does and heifers in at dusk. If you like to complain about long hours, hard work, dirty feet, or don't like outdoor seasonal conditions then this ranch is not for you.  We accept helpers year round as work continues throughout the year. We expect reliability, honesty and a strong work ethic. Absolutely no illegal drugs (zero tolerance) or illegal underage alcohol consumption will be tolerated.   You must be willing to learn and able to understand directions. Cleanliness is absolutely essential! You must be able to lift 50 pounds. We will train you in the following areas if needed: general ranch work involving feeding and bedding animals, and cleaning. You may have opportunities to sell goat meat and jerky directly at local farmer's markets. Application Available Here!
