FERN
UC
An early day neutral selection of the U.C. breeding
program, Fern has become a popular home gardener variety. Fern will
produce fruit 90 days after planting if conditions are correct. Fern’s
fruit is medium in size and medium in firmness.

JUNE
BEARER VARIETIES - FOR THE HOME GARDENER
ALLSTAR
Allstar produces a good crop of very large, light
colored, sweet berries. This widely adapted variety has performed
consistently well from the east to central midwest.
ANNAPOLIS
This berry produces large fruit early. Berries are light red and winter
hardy. An excellent early season choice for U-pick farmers and fresh
sales.
BENTON -
Pacific Northwest Variety
Hardy June bearing Oregon variety. Tolerant to red
steel and virus. Good flavor if allowed to ripen to a deep color.
EARLIGLOW
Earliglow may be the best flavored of all the widely
grown commercial varieties. It is the earliest producing medium sized
berry. Its size decreases as the season progresses, making it
difficult for u-pick farms to sell the fruit.
HONEOYE
A high yielding popular pick-your-own variety. Medium
sized red fruit are good for freezing. Good in light soils. Honeoye
performs well. Disease tolerance is poor. It is best when grown on
raised beds.
HOOD -
Pacific Northwest Variety
Medium sized, bright glossy red fruit, that will turn dark when fully
ripe. Fine sweet flavor with good quality. Fruit is good for use in
preserves and jams. The plant is vigorous and erect. Plants are
tolerant to root rot, mildew and red steele. Production is over a
small period of time and begins in early June. Hood is a popular home
garden variety.
JEWEL
Jewel appears to be one of the best all-around
varieties. Good for u-pick, fresh shipping and longer season yields.
It produces large, firm, wedge-shaped fruit of beautiful color and
quality. Jewel’s firmness and abrasive resistant skin make
itideal for shipping.
